vandermeer spielen Shoegazing-Indie mit Mut zum Pop, sind aber meilenweit vom «Dienstleistungs-Pop» entfernt. Vandermeer machen den Sound, der erst klingt, als wäre nebenan hinter verschlossener Tür die Musik aufgedreht worden – und dann öffnet sich diese Tür… Unterkühlte Bassläufe, zyklenhaft laufende Synthieflächen, mit Noise und Melodie hantierende Gitarrenlines und der ätherische Gesang von Sängerin Harmke van der Meer nehmen den Gitarrenrock zurück in die 90er. Dabei steht das Quartett zwischen den Stühlen von Dreampop und feedbacklastigen Popkaskaden, die sich nicht um Erwartungen kümmern, jedoch auch nie die Zugänglichkeit verleugnen. Dunkel sind die Songs teilweise, doch dann kommt ein basslastiger Postpunk um die Ecke, nimmt die geflengerten Gitarren zwischen Slowdive und Lush in die Mangel, giesst eine Dosis Synthiepop an und gefällt durch die expliziten breitwandigen Waveanleihen.

Vier Jungs. Ein Van. Das Roadtripmixtape auf Dauerschleife und Sprit genug, um entweder zum nächsten Wasserplatz oder zum nächsten Gig zu kommen. Pizza und Bier auf dem Rücksitz, Sonne auf der Windschutzscheibe. Und überall Musik: Indie-Surf-Sound, der mal entspannt, mal punkig, aber immer emotional durch die Luft schwingt. Fast salzige Luft, ob Meer, ob Schweiß, ist irrelevant. Allesamt, schließt euch der Karawane von Freizeit, Spaß und Freundschaft aka Liebe an, bei einem Houseparty-Konzert.

vandermeer play shoegazing indie that doesn’t shy away from the realm of pop, while still being miles away from service industry pop. vandermeer produce that sound, that first sounds like your neighbor’s turned up the music behind closed doors – until the door opens… Hypothermic bass runs, cyclical synthie pads, guitar runs handling noise and melody, and front woman Harmke’s ethereal singing take guitar rock back tot he 90s. The quartet sits on the fence between dream pop and feedback-heavy pop cascades, that don’t care about expectations, yet never deny approachability. The songs are dark, at times, until bass-heavy post punk rolls around the corner, puts the flangered guitars through the mill of slow dive and lush, pours a cuppa synth pop, and satisfies with explicit, broadband wave influences.
